What is an "engine condition"?

Today's engines, whether it's a turbine on an aircraft, or engines driving gas compressors, are expensive investments. Engines are precision-engineered and designed to operate at peak efficiencies while generating maximum power - while doing so with less fuel, and fewer emissions.  

Not knowing, at all times, your engine's conditions - can cost lives in the case of an aircraft, or dollars if the engines are used in your business. Therefore, it is vital that you know the condition of your engine(s) at all times. 99% of the time before an engine fails, there are tell-tale signs and indicators, that if caught, would have required significantly fewer dollars to correct when compared to the cost of buying a new engine.  These tell-tale signs are a part of the "engine condition."  There are numerous companies providing products, services and technologies that continuously monitor the engine condition. Some of these, in addition to "engine condition" are known as "engine health," engine condition monitoring, and engine health monitoring.

What are "gas turbines"?

A gas turbine is a "jet engine" but more accurately described as a "combustion turbine" which, instead of being located on the wing of an aircraft, is permanently mounted - usually in a "sound-attenuated" enclosure on the ground. As fuel is combusted in the turbine, the rotation of the shaft turns a generator and which generates electricity that is sold to homes and businesses.
